Spode "Christmas Tree" Glass Pitcher, 96 oz. I received the pitcher today. Although it was made of very heavy glass, I was disappointed that there were noticeable bubbles in the glass. One bubble was quite distinct, on the front of the pitcher, near the Christmas tree design. The pitcher is lovely, I just wish it didn't have the bubble flaws in it.

These biscuits have been a hit since I started making them almost a week ago. There are certainly painstaking (I manage only three dozen a day), but are worth the effort since they are pretty impressive. Given that I gorge myself with chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate all the time, I think I've forgotten how delicious plain sugar-cookies can be. And these served to remind me well -- they are crisp and not too sweet, with a rich, buttery fragrance that hits you every time you open the cookie jar. Add to that the wow factor of the luminescent stained-glass windows (made by way of chopped hard candies) and you have another winner that's going in to C's Christmas goody basket for his clients. The recipe has been adapted from Martha Stewart Holiday Cookies, a special issue with over 100 recipes that will take me more than a year to try! If the cookies look like a mission to make, it's because they are. Chopping the hard candies are a messy and back-pain-inducing affair, so I tried pounding them in a mortar and pestle, which was even messier. At first I thought that blitzing them in my mini food chopper might grind them too finely, but as it turns out, that is the best option. Though if you live in the hot humid tropics as I do, it might be best to grind only what you will use each time because they end up melting extremely quickly and sticking together in clumps (not to mention all over your fingertips too). On top of that, the dough is pretty soft and buttery, so it's best to keep it in the fridge until ready to use. You should also flour your work surface generously so it doesn't stick all over the place. Finally, when it's ready to go into the oven, you need to check it every couple of minutes with a toothpick in hand to fill any little holes in the "glass" as the sweets begin to melt and boil. Now, if you're still fancy making up a batch, here's the recipe.Stained Glass Trees
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour, plus more (lots more!) for work surface1/4 tsp coarse salt1/2 tsp baking powder1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter1 cup sugar1 large egg1 tsp pure vanilla extract7 ounces (about 30) assorted clear coloured hard candies (colours separated and finely chopped)Sift flour, salt and baking powder and set aside. Put butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted wth the paddle attachment and mix on medium speed until pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add egg and mix till smooth, about 1 minute. Reduce speed to low and add flour mixture. Mix till combined and stir in vanilla. Wrap the dough in plastic and refrigerate until cold, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (or 170 degrees C) with racks in upper and lower thirds. Roll out chilled dough on a well-floured surface to a little more than 1/8-inch thick. Cut out shapes using a tree-shaped cookie cutter. Using a metal spatula, space 2 inches apart on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Using the tip of a paring knife, make a triangular cut-out in the centre of each cookie. Re-roll scraps and cut. Sprinkle candy in a single layer in the hole of each cookie, avoiding the edges of the triangle. Bake until candy has just melted and the cookie edges are just starting to turn pale golden brown, about 11-12 minutes. Midway through baking, quickly open the oven door and check for any holes in the "glass" (there will probably be lots). use a toothpick to fill them in. Try not to let the candy centres become bubbly. Cool completely on sheets on wire racks and use a metal spatula to remove cookies from parchment.

Cookie cutters Sheets of Clear Plastic Acetate Stained Glass Paint Paint Brushes Hot Glue Ribbon Black Marker (Thin Tip, like a Fine Sharpie) Scissors Exacto Knife (Optional) Self-Adhering Stained glass lead Hole punch The first step is to lay your cookie cutters out on some of your plastic acetate sheets. You can buy these plastic acetate sheets at almost any art supply store and arts and craft store. It is easy to cut and affordable. Trace the outer edge of your cookie cutter on the acetate with your Sharpie marker. Now, cut the shape out of the acetate with a very sharp pair of scissors. If you have a lot of details in your Christmas cookie cutter you may want to use an exacto knife to cut the shape out with. Now, go ahead and use the hole punch to add a hole on the left and right side of each shape. Now, I like to use my sharpie marker to draw out May areas of stained glass color, but you can skip this step and start painting freehand. Once you have your areas marked off you can fill in with your stained glass paint. Let your stained glass paint dry completely. Now, use your scissors to cut out your strips of self-adhering stained glass lead. I find this stuff in rolls all the time at the arts and craft store. I have also seen it at my regular art apply store. Peel off the back, just like a sticker and place it on your black outlines between your areas of color.

The subject of the patent is the production of Christmas tree ornaments composed of several blown objects assembled to form one piece. Several methods related to assembling glass elements are known. The heat method involves welding elements preheated to the softening temperature, which is a difficult technique requiring a great deal of labor. It requires high qualifications and a considerable amount of work and leads to great consumption of heat energy, and the resulting assembly is rigid, fragile, and breakable. The glass elements can also be assembled using glues. But doing so requires elements with large surface areas, and the majority of the glues are subject to the aging process, particularly under the influence of weather. Glass elements can also be assembled using metal structures in the form of frames. This is the method used to produce stained glass windows, and it is suitable practically only for flat elements. According to the description of Polish patent no. 120335, a method for assembling glass and/or ceramic elements is known that consists of making construction attachments that are coated or dipped in the molten assembly material, since the temperature of the glass and/or ceramic elements is maintained between 50° C. and the fusion temperature of the assembly material in order to have the assembly material solidify subsequently. The attachments of two or more shaped glass and/or ceramic elements are then finally assembled by soldering or welding. The method in accordance with the invention essentially consists of eliminating the heated operations thanks to execution, at the stage of producing the blown glass objects, in the form of seats having the dimensions and spatial layouts of the defined base bodies of the blown objects on which one freely places the tenons of other elements of appropriate shape, while the seat itself and the tenons, before assembly of the elements, are covered with a quick-setting plastic bonding material. The method of completing the assemblies consists of making in the base bodies, during the phase of producing the blown glass object, a seat having a profile and a spatial arrangement allowing the tenon for the other elements of the Christmas tree ornament to be freely placed in such a way that it can be placed in accordance with the desired shape and in the appropriate direction, while the surfaces of the assembly seat and tenon are coated with a quick-setting plastic bonding material so they can be assembled afterward and so they can be placed in a mould providing the desired, reproducible shapes of Christmas tree ornaments while the bonding material is setting. Depending on the number of elements assembled in the base body, one or more identical seats can be made in one or more assembled elements, and on other elements there are appropriately formed assembly tenons. The advantage of the method in accordance with the invention is the possibility of assembling several blown glass objects in a permanent fashion while forming Christmas tree ornaments having varied shapes and dimensions, having flat arrangements with any spacing, since the assembly is done without reheating, and after it solidifies the assembly is permanent but elastic. Set 4 Miniature Feather Tree Fancy Finial Drop Glass Christmas Ornaments These four miniature or feather tree size fancy blown glass Christmas ornaments are so pretty. About 3 long, theyre fancy finial drops with ribbed drum shape centers. Two are red and gold with gold glitter decoration, two are similar but with silver glitter and blue added to the red and gold coloring. The have metal hangers without caps so I cant tell where they were made. Slight, typical chipping at the pikes, otherwise excellent condition.

Strawberry Cottage Glass Feather Tree Christmas Ornament This vintage feather tree sized glass Christmas ornament is in the shape of a strawberry, with four paned windows on each side. Just over 1-3/4 high, it appears to have been silvered on the inside at one time but the mercury has deteriorated, leaving the ornament with its outside paint intact and a semi-transparent effect. I had to replace the metal cap, it was rusty and broken. There was no mark on the original, or if there was it was unreadable. In very good condition with no damage. Circa. 1930s - 1940s
5 Tiny Colorful Feather Tree Indent Glass Christmas Ornaments Five fancy feather tree size glass Christmas ornaments from the 1980s, painted in bright jewel tone colors. The red and silver ball is the only plain one, the others are indented and have hand painted designs. The green ornament with the twisted icicle finial has one reflector indent, the yellow with pink centers has two, and the pink/green and blue/pink each have three indents. The largest is barely over 1-3/4 long from pontil to the top of the cap, the smallest is just over an inch high. All five are in very good vintage condition with no damage and only very slight wear. Patriotic Decorated Miniature Plastic Gumdrop Christmas Tree with Ornaments, Garland This vintage clear acrylic plastic dimensional tree is often called a gumdrop tree (people would place jellied gumdrop candies on the branch tips) but there are notches at the tips of the branches for tiny Christmas ornaments. The 2-piece tree is just 7 tall, very pretty when decorated. Included with the tree are a 17 inch mercury glass bead garland with red, silver, and blue beads, and one dozen miniature or feather tree size silvered glass Christmas ornaments, about 5/8 diameter. The ornaments are also in patriotic colors of red, blue and silver, four each. The ornaments and beads have no chips but theyre at least 50 years old or more and do have minor age spotting and color wear. Circa. 1940s - 1950s Country of Origin. US

There are four each solid red, blue, and gold 1 inch diameter ornaments. The box has the Max Eckardt & Sons name on it, is dated 1965, and states the ornaments are American Made. One of the gold balls has lost quite a bit of its inner silvering, and there is age spottiness as shown but no chips or breaks, and all have their wire hangers. The box has the phrase Patent Pending and the Max Eckhardt & Sons New York address does not specify a zip or zone code at all (neither the 2 digit nor 5 digit style). I believe they were made no later than the early 1950s but could be even older than that. The box is in excellent condition with the cellophane window intact, just a very slight split at one corner of the hinge. Though they are still shiny and reflective, there is some faint loss of the inner silvering which gives them a near-transparent effect when held up to strong light, but its not noticeable otherwise.
