While I understand the concept of wanting to protect our children, I must question why would anyone purchase a glass table and then allow their 11 year old child to "possibly" jump on it. Even if she feel in such a way to puncture her leg, it seems to me that it was not really an accident.

It came with a little dent, went to together in about 10 min. but i would not recommend, the glass feels like it will break when you put anything on it. The coffee table itself just doesn't seem well made. The legs and frame don't line up perfectly so there are gaps where the legs are attached to the table. In this episode of DIY Wood Works, host David Marks builds a contemporary glass-top hall-table with a coopered column-base made of jarrah wood. Drawing on the skills of craftsmen who built oak barrels for aging wine, this hall table was created with a coopered base consisting of two curved sections. Coopering is the art of barrel-making and involves a process for making curved wood surfaces without bending the wood. Narrow strips of wood called staves are cut to fit together so that they follow the arc of a circle. To create the curved bases for this table, staves are milled from jarrah wood, and a template serves as a layout guide as we angle-cut each stave to bring the pieces together in a sweeping curve. The top and bottom edges of the barell-like base sections are cut on an angle so the sides of the base tilt gracefully in toward each other. To join the sides, copper pipes -- finished using a hot patina process -- are cut and glued into holes that have been partially drilled through the sides of the base. Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol This can be used directly or in combination with other products to cut through grease marks. If used directly, pour a small amount of alcohol directly onto the surface. Dip a clean, lint free cloth into the alcohol and wipe over a portion of the table top. Eventually work your way across the entire surface. Finish by using another dry, lint free cloth to remove any streaks or wet areas. If you prefer, use alcohol in an equal parts combination with water in a spray bottle. Glass table injuries were fairly common between the ages of two and six years. About half of the accidents involved the face, while most of the others involved the upper and lower extremities.

Injuries occurred when the children jumped on or knocked into glass tables. The authors point out that more than half of the injuries may have been prevented or mitigated with the use of tempered glass.

Common sense says that glass coffee tables are SUPER dangerous! Didnt stop me from falling through one a couple of years ago while on vacation - sat down on it briefly to talk to someone for a second (DUH!). I would never have a glass coffee table, because I feel thru one when I was two. At my aunts my cousin and I were jumping on the couches, like bad kids. My aunt was in the kitchen, and heard glass shatter. She found me, I had fallen and shattered the coffee table. She rushed me to the ER, and I was so lucky. It had sliced my eye open, but somehow missed my eyeball. Other then that I just had bumps and bruises, and a few small cuts. Several stitches in my eye, but 26 years later and it is just a small scar. I dont remember it at all, I was told the story. It has affected my aunt more then me, she still to this day hasnt bought another glass coffee table. I would tell anybody that is going shopping for coffee tables, dont get glass if you are going to have kids in your house at all. You cant watch kids every second of everyday, and it happens so quick. Better safe then sorry!!!
