The Cardigans is a Swedish band formed in the town of Jönköping in 1992. The band's musical style has varied greatly from album to album and encompasses their early indie leanings passing through '60s-inspired pop and more band-based rock. Their debut album Emmerdale (1994) gave them a solid base in their home country and enjoyed some success abroad, especially in Japan. But it wasn't until their breakthrough second album Life (1995) that international audiences and critics responded. The band is perhaps best known outside of Sweden for their international hit singles "Erase/Rewind" and "My Favourite Game" from the album Gran Turismo (1998) and "Lovefool" from the album First Band on the Moon (1996). Its inclusion in the soundtrack of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet by director Baz Luhrmann secured their popularity. The Cardigans have sold 5 million albums worldwide.
In Jönköping, Sweden, with drummer Bengt Lagerberg, keyboardist Lars-Olof Johansson and lead singer Nina Persson. Living together in a small apartment, The Cardigans recorded a demo tape which record producer Tore Johansson heard, leading to an invitation to record at a studio in Malmö. In 1994 they released their debut album Emmerdale in Sweden and Japan (it was re-released internationally in 1997). The album includes the Swedish radio hit "Rise Shine" and was later voted the best of 1994 in a poll in Slitz magazine. The rest of 1994 was spent touring Europe and recording Life, which was released worldwide in 1995. Life became an international success, selling more than a million copies and achieving platinum status in Japan. In 1996 Life was released under the label Minty Fresh in the U. S., but this release was essentially a compilation of tracks from Emmerdale and Life. Life was perhaps a satirical riposte to the first album, and saw the band move in a more avant-garde direction in terms of arrangements and artwork.
After their success with Life, The Cardigans signed to Mercury Records, under which they released First Band on the Moon worldwide in 1996. With this album, the band had developed into a more complex, darker animal, the songs included themes of heartbreak, infidelity and despair. "Lovefool" was a hit across the globe, especially in the United States and again in Japan, where the album reached platinum in only three weeks. However, it was unrepresentative of the album as a whole and, although it helped it achieve gold sales status in America, many critics branded them saccharine soft-pop on the basis of "Lovefool". The song was shown on MTV in the late 90s as a music video with clips from the 1996 hit film Romeo + Juliet starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. In 1997, the band played themselves on the graduation episode of Beverly Hills 90210. 1998's Gran Turismo was darker and more moody, and was followed by a long hiatus during which the band members pursued solo side projects. The same year they also released a compilation of rare B-sides called The Other Side of the Moon as a Japan-only release which makes this album somewhat rare outside Japan. The video of the song "My Favourite Game" was censored by MTV for showing reckless driving. "My Favourite Game" was also featured on the soundtrack of the Playstation video game Gran Turismo 2 for the opening sequence of races. That year also saw their song "Deuce" appearing on The X-Files. The Album.
The Cardigans returned in 2003 with Long Gone Before Daylight, a quieter, more ambient collection of songs mainly written by Nina Persson and Peter Svensson. Long Gone Before Daylight became one of the best selling albums in Sweden of 2003 with sales over 120,000 (2x Platinum). On 28 April 2005 the band's iTunes Originals album was released through iTunes. On 19 October 2005 the band released their sixth album Super Extra Gravity to generally favorable reviews.
During the break in us., Nina Persson released an album as A Camp and the Cardigans recorded a duet cover of Talking Heads' "Burning Down the House" with Tom Jones on his album Reload, Peter Svensson worked on the project Paus with help from Joakim Berg from Kent, and Magnus Sveningsson recorded as Righteous Boy. In 2006, Magnus restarted their old label Trampolene and became an AR for it. The first signing was the Swedish popband The Animal Five, which was a minor success in Sweden and Germany. In November 2006 Nina Persson featured on The Cake Sale, an album set up by Oxfam Ireland. It contains 9 tracks from some of Ireland's leading artists. Proceeds from the album go to the Fair Trade campaign. Nina appeared on the Manic Street Preachers album Send Away the Tigers (May 2007). providing guest vocals on the UK Chart #2 single 'Your Love Alone Is Not Enough'.
A cardigan is a type of sweater (or jumper) that ties, buttons or zips down the front. by contrast, a pullover does not open in front, but forms a solid tube around the torso. The cardigan was named after James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, a British military commander, following his service in the Crimean War. It is usually machine- or hand-knitted from wool or cotton. Cardigans are available for both sexes. Cardigans are also popular in twee fashion.
The torso of a cardigan is often knit as a single piece in a simple back-and-forth manner. By contrast, knitting a pullover as a single piece requires circular knitting. Alternatively, the body of the cardigan may be knit in three pieces, one for the back and two for the front. Although all types of necklines are found in cardigans, the V-neckline is especially popular. The seam in front of a cardigan allows for many fashionable variations. For example, it need not be straight, but can cross diagonally (surplice style). it may also be lined with frills or cut away to form a bolero jacket. A special type of cardigan is a shrug which is mostly just sleeves, with only a strip of fabric running along the back, resembling a scaled down vest.
An oversized sweater is the chicest and easiest way to stay warm this season. Do so with this Oversized Knit Cardigan Sweater, bust 21. It would look darling with a pair of gray skinny jeans and flat ankle booties.
GemV purchased a new feather belt, but what I'm particularly drawn to is her playing with proportions. Notice that her leather jacket is cropped, while her gray sweater is hip-length, and her yellow cardigan is slightly longer. Way to pull it off effortlessly.
The Cardigans run this site, so no naughty stuff please. Other than that, please enjoy our newborn Myspace site. Oh, we choose the songs for the playlist ourselves. Perhaps you think we pick odd songs/non singles or weird versions, but it..s more fun that way. Oh, self promoting message will be deleted cause they..re rather lame, ok? Thanks!
The Cardigans are a Swedish band that formed in Jönköping, Småland, Sweden in 1992. The bands musical style has varied greatly from album to album. encompassing their early indie-leanings passing through 60s-inspired pop and more band-based rock. Their current lineup is Nina Persson on vocals, Peter Svensson on lead guitar, Magnus Sveningsson on bass guitar, Bengt Lagerberg on drums and Lars-Olof Johansson on keyboards and guitar.
The five-piece met as teenagers in Jönköping, Sweden, a town whose only distinguishing feature is its 52 churches. In October 1992, bonded by their mutual love of hard rock and folk music (they listed Nick Drake and Iron Maiden as their two biggest influences by 1994), guitarist Peter Svensson and bassist Magnus Sveningsson conceived The Cardigans. As their hometown was hardly a Mecca of musical enterprise, the group packed up and moved to the somewhat more central fishing port of Malmö, Swedens third largest city, to seek their fortune. With Peter writing most of the music and the band as a whole composing the lyrics, the quintet set out to find a deal. After an early recording of Rise Shine appeared on a local independent label in 1994, The Cardigans were swiftly signed to Stockholm Records. The same year the band made their debut for the label with Emmerdale and later won the accolade of Best Album of 1994 from Slitz, at the time Swedens leading music magazine. The rise of The Cardigans has since been gradual, allowing them the time to develop naturally as their sales and positive exposure grew with each release.
Amazon. com Until now, the Swedish group the Cardigans were easily identified by their sunny, pop-friendly, melodic releases. Fearing being typecast as an act fluffier than a Nordic lamb, the band decided to head farther north for the winter. With Gran Turismo, their fifth release, you'll need your favorite, um, sweater, because the season has turned, the atmosphere is frosty, and, indeed, the nights are long and dark. Gran Turismo is a trip-hop album following the lead of grim meisters Portishead. The CD is punctuated with distorted, muted, uncomplicated guitar riffs and keyboard effects that often sound like a harpsichord played through a fuzz box. Nina Persson's slightly aching, sleepy little cutesy lead vocals sound as frictionless as rubbing two ice cubes together. Although the skies are grayer here, the one familiar musical element is their simple yet compelling rhythm structures, as evidenced in their jazz-informed drum patterns. If the Cardigans weren't competent musicians, this album would come across as nothing more than a career-sustaining maneuver. But with this solid, dark, and intriguing release, they've clearly demonstrated their ability to compose great songs, no matter what the weather. --Beth Bessmer Entertainment Weekly [The Cardigans shed] their tired '60s-isms in favor of blissfully kitschless trip-hop. Gran Turismo is sheer brilliance. Very few bands can completely change their sound within 5 years, and sound great all the way through. This album is an amalgamation of all the deep, dark undercurrents running through the Cardigan's previous albums, sliding into it's greatest glumness during the morose, depressing Marvel Hill in which Nina Persson covertly explains that nothing in life is worth trying for because there will always be something better to achieve. I won't lie to you. pretty much all of the lyrics on this album are just plain miserable in feel. But that doesn't limit the Cardigans to some of the routine angry yelling or chord mashing cliches of other alternative rock bands today. Instead of screaming, they wail, and every melodic chord, every trippy drum-beat conveys a different emotion. The music works best in a dark room, with headphones on your ears, playing the music throughout your skull.I'm telling you, it's an amazing experience. I was impressed by this definitive work of The Cardigans. It is most certainly worth your time and money.
This was quite a shock for a Cardigans fan who starting listening to them when First Band on the Moon came out. After listening to Life and FBOTM over and over again, I was not expecting the Cards to go electronic. But I have to say, I'm glad they did. They more or less abandoned their original 60's sound. the only song on here that sounds like their earlier work is "Junk of the Hearts". The Cardigans have the same uncanny grace that bands like Saint Etienne have, able to switch sounds completely between albums and yet still sound like they've been playing this way forever. "Paralyzed" is a great opening tune, I love the lyrics. "Explode", "Erase/Rewind", and "Hanging Around" are also oustanding tracks. My favorites would have to be "My Favourite Game" and "Do You Believe". I haven't heard Long Gone Before Daylight very often and I have yet to hear their new one (who knows when it will be released in the US), but I can safely say that I will listen to whatever music they want to put out. Because chances are, it will be fantastic!
Classic Cardigan This album is THE classic Cardigan album. It should have it's own shelf. It's style was laced with combinations of electronic, pop, and alternative. I loved it.
Definitivamente GRAN Tursimo Nunca me llamo mucho la atencion los Cardigans. Sus etapas de "Life" y "Emerdale" eran muy vintage y muy mellow. Tal vez escuche "First band." y ese fue el mejorcito.
My fav cardigans album i've listened to them all and this one grabs me the most. the whole album is good. your favorite game got a little played out but is still cool.
I don't know what you're looking for." The Cardigans album Gran Turismo is very interesting and strange to say the least. Lead singer Nina Peerson's vocals and excellent songwriting keeps this album shining from start.

Un gran video de una grandísima canción de los Cardigans. No dejeis de verlo y adivinad qué escena de Star Wars ha influenciado en el video..
Like a great many people who now call America home, adopted New Yorker Nina Persson found herself so whipped up by last autumn's presidential campaign that she offered her services to the Democrat nominee free of charge. Within weeks, she and her American-born husband (and bandmate) Nathan Larson were dispatched to the neighbourhoods of east Cleveland to help motivate an electorate that had never before voted into making a difference this time. "We were going door to door asking people to vote for Obama," she says. "I'd tell them all about the good work he was doing, but that because I was Swedish I wasn't able to vote myself. However, they were, and I insisted that they should." She smiles coquettishly. "I encountered a lot of enthusiasm." Seated beside her, Larson laughs mirthlessly. Of course you did. There you were, looking radiant, showing them your dimples. For you it was, 'Sure I'll vote Obama.' For me, it was, 'Step inside, motherfucker, and meet my dog King Kong.' But, hey, we all must have done a good job, his wife responds. Obama won. It was your dimples that swayed it, he deadpans. Late January in Stockholm, and the Swedish capital sits under a blanket of clouds so low you could touch them. It has rained relentlessly all day, turning the overnight ice into dangerous slush but doing little to alleviate the freezing temperatures. Persson, clad in a diaphanous blouse and black leggings, is hardly dressed for such conditions, and the trim grey overcoat she dons as we leave her discreetly upmarket hotel for a nearby restaurant is more for fashion than warmth. Thirty-four years old, and still in possession of a pair of cheekbones that sit so high it looks as if her cool blue eyes are resting on shelves, she is friendly and chatty, but every time she laughs, which she does sparingly, she gives the impression that she is concealing something much darker. As frontwoman with the Cardigans, perhaps Sweden's biggest musical export since Abba, she's made a career of making music that sounds at first like the sweetest of confections but that, on further investigation, reveals the blackest of hearts. Over the past 15 years, the band has sold 5m albums worldwide. But it is with her side project, A Camp (also comprising fellow Swede Niclas Frisk and, more recently, her musician husband, both 39), with whom she has at last found creative satisfaction and something close to happiness. Persson and Frisk (the latter an erstwhile member of a band called Atomic Swing that enjoyed considerable native success before Frisk bailed out, claiming fatigue) made their first, eponymous, album as A Camp in 2001. Inspired by Americana and full of broken dreams and painful confessions, it sounded exquisitely doleful, won critical acclaim across the board and scooped four Swedish Grammys. Colonia, the belated follow-up, finally arrives this month. If its predecessor was informed by bleakness, Colonia is expansive and cinematic, touching on everything from love to the French Revolution and modern-day America, and frequently sounds celebratory, which, for Persson, is no mean feat. I was inspired by the history of savagery, she beams, now comfortable in a city-centre restaurant. The human urge to rape, conquer and pillage has always fascinated me, and lyrically it makes for some terrific metaphors that can work in all sorts of ways, both personal and political. The album has received an enthusiastic pre-release reception, prompting within the singer some customary wobbles. A Camp is her side project, a cult corner away from the mainstream position of the Cardigans. if Colonia spirals toward success, it could compromise this and could, therefore, prompt within her another tailspin into panic, fear and anxiety. No, no. That won't happen, it isn't that kind of record. She says this more to herself than anyone else, and is quietly decisive about it. The food arrives. She slices into her side of beef, watching pink blood pool around the plate. The smile this brings to her lips looks like one of sublime satisfaction. Persson was raised in the small southern town of Jönköping, about 150km east of Gothenburg. Her father was a banker, her mother a social worker, but both were considered odd in Jönköping for one overriding reason. their lack of belief. A family of atheists in a place crammed with born-again Christians was always going to stand out. It was very, very religious, she notes. Suffocatingly so. The more her mother impressed upon her that God was a mere figment of others' imaginations, the more religion began to appeal. At 14, to her parents' bafflement, Persson was baptised. I still don't really believe in God, but I like the aesthetics of religion a lot. Do I pray? Only when I want something. Persson grew up on a diet of local folk music, and was only exposed to modern pop specifically the Smiths, Stone Roses, the Sundays once she'd enrolled in art college. Initially, she had hopes of becoming an artist, but Peter ' Svensson and Magnus Sveningsson, the Cardigans' founding members, were convinced she would be the perfect focal point for their new band. The fact she had never sung a note before was immaterial. her otherworldly aura was perfect. Aged 18, she quit college and joined the band. In 1994, they released their first album, Emmerdale, so titled because these pronounced Anglophiles considered it the most British word they could think of. Two years later, they had a global hit on their hands with Lovefool, which featured on the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo Juliet. Their music was terribly fetching and almost, by now, formulaic. sugarspun melodies that belied the brittleness of their lyrics. Though it may have unsettled their lead singer, fame embraced them. they even appeared on an episode of Beverly Hills 90210. They were fted on both sides of the Atlantic, and Persson became Sweden's most resistant sex symbol. I was called ridiculous things, like the Ice Queen, she recalls. And if I smoked a cigarette or wore leather pants, the media went wild. It was crazy, stupid. Suddenly I represented this group that, creatively, I had little to do with. I never felt as if I deserved the fame which was probably very Swedish of me. People were saying I was hot-looking, cute, but I never was. I never had groupies, unlike the rest of the band. Men were scared to approach me, which bummed me out because I would have loved some more, you know. When she finally did bag herself a boyfriend, she says, it was pretty much a catastrophe. He was with me only because I was famous, but he was terribly jealous of me, and always insecure. We lasted a year somehow. a horrible time. I was successful, making a lot of money, and I enjoyed none of it. In 1997, she met Frisk, himself in the grip of his own misery. Both wanted things their bands were failing to provide them. They got heroically drunk together and wrote songs more freely than they ever had. But the Cardigans were not about to let Persson go easily. Her request to go off and do something else for a while was rejected. I'm not saying I was a slave, she says, but I was being restricted. It upset me. And so she left Frisk and returned to her day job, recording Gran Turismo, the album that became the Cardigans' most successful (it featured the global smash My Favourite Game). I was very fucked-up throughout the entire recording, she says. Indeed, on the record she sounds exquisitely forlorn, beautiful but blank. I remember finding a dead bat in the woods near the studio one day. I took it back, nailed it to the wall, and sang every word to the bat, and to nobody else. To her considerable frustration, the album was a huge hit. The accompanying world tour took almost three years. We were a machine, she says. But she wanted more from life. She had recently hooked up with Larson, but was able to spend little time with him. And that, when you consider it, is crazy. When you are 18 to 25, fine, you can spend all your time with your band, as that's all you have. But when you get older, you want to spend time with the people who matter. At the end of the tour, she married Larson and this time insisted on making A Camp a reality. Their first album was finally released in 2001, and though privately she was happy, the songs revolved around desolation and desperation. Who wants to hear anyone sing about how great everything is? she argues. And so I Can Buy You concerned soulless sex with famous people, while Such A Bad Comedown was surely an admission to heroin addiction? Or perhaps a metaphor for love, she teases, because the two are similar, don't you think? But was she ever a junkie? I've never been much of one, though I was a pretty serious drinker. Larson interjects. She could drink anyone I have met under the table. Anyone. I'm serious, she could decimate you. In 2003, initially against her wishes, the Cardigans reconvened once more, hiring a house by the beach in Los Angeles to conduct an unofficial therapy session to find out whether what once bound them was still there. Spouses were banned. They spent days and nights cooking for one another, drinking a great deal, and bursting into tears, running down to the beach and rolling about in the sand. It was very therapeutic. So much so that it encouraged them to record again. The album that came out of this was Long Gone Before Daylight, with songs profoundly confessional even by their standards. And Then You Kissed Me, for example, concerned physical abuse. I'm lucky, I've never been in a violent relationship, says Persson now, so that song wasn't autobiographical. But the subject, that whole kind of thing. it fascinates me. The band would return once again two years later, for the Super Extra Gravity album, but after that Persson finally spread her wings, moving to New York with Larson. I was feeling positive, strong, she says. It was a nice sensation. Eighteen months ago, Persson and her husband decided to get on to Manhattan's property ladder. They couldn't afford much by themselves, so decided to go in with Larson's parents. They now share a four-storey brownstone in a part of Harlem that has yet to undergo full gentrification. We've been burgled three times in 18 months, Persson notes, but that's just something that happens. And besides, the police are really helpful. They know us by name now. Though they are currently renovating the house, the couple anticipate spending little time there in 2009, taking the majority of the year to promote Colonia around the world. Intermittently, she fields calls from her old bandmates wondering whether she plans to return. I have to feel 100 per cent conviction about doing another Cardigans record, she says, and right now I don't. I feel terribly guilty, yes, as I know they are waiting. It's not my fault I'm irreplaceable, is it? Three years ago, Persson made her big-screen debut in a quiet and tasteful Swedish art movie called God Willing. Though she never expressed a craving to do any more films, she found herself auditioning, as a favour for a friend, for a bit-part in a Hollywood movie a year later. I met a casting agent [for the thriller Deception]. She wanted to know whether I'd bleach my hair and do full-frontal nudity. This was for five minutes' screen time in which I got to kiss Ewan Mc-Gregor. I just said to her, 'Sorry, no, it's not worth it,' and left. I guess I didn't want to be known for playing naked call girls. Safe to say, then, that she is not pursuing any more roles right now. You need a raging ambition to act, she concedes, and she simply doesn't possess it. In fact she has only one overriding ambition these days, and it's a pretty futile one at that. If I could live my life over, I'd study medicine and become a doctor, she says. But I know it's too late now. They don't do evening courses, do they? It's kind of all or nothing with medicine, and I just don't have the time. Her interest was sparked after having had an encounter with medicine a few years back. I was in hospital a lot, I had surgery. She says this in a rushed manner that doesn't invite further questioning. Anyway, while I was there, I read all sorts of medical books, and became obsessed with anatomy. In our toilet in our house in New York I have this big, fat medical book, and I love to spend hours in there reading it. Her husband laughs. She knows exactly which muscles are engaged while she is doing her business, he confirms. I do, it's true. I know all about the sphincter. Not something one would expect to come from the mouth of Nina Persson. But then, this is a woman full of surprises. 'Colonia' is released tomorrow on Reveal Records

MALMO, Sweden (CNN) -- The breathy vocals of Nina Persson helped launch The Cardigans onto the music scene in the 1990s. The band developed its dreamy pop sound in the Southern Swedish town of Malmo.
They were catapulted to international success in 1997, when the single Lovefool appeared on the soundtrack for Romeo and Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The song's chorus (Love me, love me, say that you love me) became a pop anthem. In addition to fronting The Cardigans, Persson, 34, has worked on solo projects under the name A Camp. Now, after a near decade long hiatus, her second A Camp album, Colonia, is due out later this month. Persson, who splits her time between New York and Malmo, talks to CNN's My City, My Life about music, inspiration and life after Lovefool. CNN. How did The Cardigans start? Nina Persson. We formed the band in this town where we are all originally from -- Jonkoping -- and that was in 1992. Magnus and Peter were the two guys who actually met and wanted to form the band. And then they recruited people and I was one of the first to be recruited, along with a friend of mine who played guitar in the first version of The Cardigans. I had not sung before that really. I was sort of hired because they knew they wanted a girl singing. And I was like 'I'm a girl' and I guess we got along well and I was willing to learn to sing. So that's how it started really.
Nina Persson. I've loved music my whole life. But I never really listened to a record and thought that was something that I wanted to do. I was interested in becoming a painter, an architect, a designer. Those are the things I was interested in. But music, I never took instrument classes -- it was a random thing to start doing. CNN. Sometime a career finds you? Nina Persson. Yeah and I was a person who was really helped by it. I was looking for something but I didn't know what it was and it proved to fulfill what I needed at the time. CNN. How is A Camp different from The Cardigans? Nina Persson. It's hard to say what makes it different because I'm still doing the same thing -- I'm still writing songs and singing them -- but it feels like it's a bigger freedom because I am in charge in A Camp. I like both. Both serve good purposes. I like to be in the collective, being part of the machinery, but I also really enjoy being dictator. CNN. How do you define yourself as a musician now? Nina Persson. Well I'm not. I'm not one of these people who live and breathe music. In the beginning I was a reluctant musician -- I still haven't bothered to learn an instrument. I'm still only a singer and that's how I write my songs. I'm always superstitious that if I do learn an instrument I would pop the bubble a bit. CNN. Is there anything else you would have liked to have done if you hadn't done singing? Nina Persson. At the time when I was found, picked up by the band, I was into art. I was really good at drawing, really creative. I made stuff, I built stuff, I sewed stuff. I thought I would end up in that world somewhere. Photography was a big thing for me. In retrospect, I'm sure that could have been a good career for me. But recently I've started to wish that I could start over and dedicate my life to medicine. I would have loved to go to med school. I don't think I will because I don't want to spend seven or eight years in training, but I dream about working in a hospital. CNN. What were your inspirations over the years? Nina Persson. That's an incredibly difficult question to answer, but I think I'm a sucker for constantly going back to the subject of love and relationships. It also varies very much from project to project and month to month. I'm very emotional when it comes to the music. I want to make people cry. CNN. Tell us the story of how the band ended up in Malmo.
November 6, 1998 Their New Cuckoo The Cardigans on crap Swedish music, life after "Lovefool," Lilith Fair, "90210" and, oh yeah, their new album
Super Extra Gravity Long removed from their days as U. S. hitmakers ("Lovefool," anyone?), the Cardigans are still huge in their native Sweden, and better than you remember. Their sixth studio album balances blander pop rock like "In the Round" with darker, rougher stuff and spunky little ditties such as "Little Black C.
From a distance, the Cardigans fit all the adjectives usually heaped upon Swedish pop groups. Bubbly. Perky. Winsome. Cute. But this lounge-pop fivesome's world isn't all sweetness and light. Frontwoman Nina Persson's breathy, girlish voice may seem carefree, but the words she sings often carry a uniquely Scandinavian gloom, shadowing the corners of an otherwise sunny vista. Graced with.
Cardigans can be such a lifesaver when you’re slightly cold or you really want to add some color to your outfit. On the flip side, a cardigan can also tone down a loud outfit, making it a win-win purchase. I have written about the classiness and sexy mystery of cardigans before, but there are some great color and pattern combinations available now that make the cardigan worth writing about again. I found many different sites that carry unique and beautiful cardigans, but I think Old Navy beat many out because of the excellent prices and simplicity of the styles they carry. It is always good to go with simple cuts when it comes to cardigans, that way you can wear them year after year. But, it’s always fun to diversify in colors and patterns, which is exactly what Old Navy had to offer on their website.
The first cardigan that stood out from the rest on the site was this exuberant floral Button Front Cardigan. My personal favorite is the red floral, but they also carry it in blue floral and solid purple. I love the way this cardigan looks clean and classy, but will really pop with a pair of jeans and a plain white tee, or over a white or solid color dress. I would get this cardigan form fitting, but it depends what you already have in your closet. I don’t think you can go wrong with this pattern for spring and summer, especially because floral patterns are going to be everywhere. Getting a cardigan would be a low dosage of this floral explosion trend.
My second love is the yellow Pearlized Button Cardigan. This also comes in different colors, but I find the yellow to be fabulous. It is just the right color yellow-- soft enough to refrain from being eye-staining, yet versatile enough to wear with the coral and turquoise accessories that are going to be a hit this upcoming season. This cardigan is subtle and classy. Whether dressing it up with pearls and heels, or using it to slightly warm up, you will be doing it with style and sophistication. Lastly, I really liked the Lightweight Boyfriend Cardigan. This one is probably the most casual and wearable of my choices. I like how this cardigan is longer and has a v-neck collar to accentuate the neckline. The Boyfriend Cardigan comes in array of solid and striped colors. With many options it’s hard not to purchase one to keep in your car. The two front pockets are not necessarily useable, but give the simple cardigan some flare. The lightness of this cardigan makes it easy to carry around and stuff in your purse, just in case the heater at dinner isn’t close enough. This cardigan would look great oversized, so you can wear it with some tighter pants and not feel like your bulging all over._______

One of the most pleasing pop groups of the '90s, the Cardigans specialized in sugary confections that would grow annoying very quickly if they weren't backed by solid musicianship and clever arrangements. The band's 1995 breakout album, Life, reflected the Cardigans at their most saccharine -- the sunny disposition of vocalist Nina Persson being the major argument in favor -- and critics inserted the group into the space age pop revivalist camp. The Cardigans later proved that they were more difficult to pigeonhole, however. Even the band's origins showed that their later appearance was quite misleading. two heavy metal fanatics formed the group in October 1992 in Jonkoping, Sweden. Guitarist Peter Svensson met bassist Magnus Sveningsson in a hardcore group, though he had previously trained in music theory and jazz arranging. The two later grew tired of metal and decided to form a pop band with vocalist Nina Persson -- an art-school friend who had never sung professionally -- plus keyboard player Lars-Olof Johansson and drummer Bengt Lagerberg. All five Cardigans moved into a small apartment in 1993 and began recording a demo tape that entered the hands of producer Tore Johansson later that year. He liked what he heard and invited the group to record at his Malm studio. Signed to the dance-oriented Stockholm label, the Cardigans released Emmerdale in May 1994. The single "Rise & Shine" became a hit on Swedish radio soon after the release of the LP, and a readers poll in Sweden's Slitz magazine voted Emmerdale the best album of 1994. The Cardigans spent the last half of 1994 touring Europe and recording their second album. A satirical response to their moody debut, Life showed the band at their most upbeat, including an angelic picture of Persson in an ice-skating outfit for the cover. Released in March 1995 -- with several re-recordings of songs from Emmerdale -- the album eventually sold one and a half million copies worldwide and became especially popular in Japan, where it achieved platinum status. A deal with Minty Fresh gave the Cardigans an American release of Life in spring 1996, and the group played eight sold-out shows in the U. S. that summer. The American major labels began to notice the attention, and Mercury signed them soon after. First Band on the Moon, released in September 1996, de-emphasized the pure pop in favor of abstract arrangements and some rather violent themes. Nevertheless, the infectious single "Lovefool" became a radio hit by early 1997, and First Band on the Moon eventually reached gold status in America, as well as platinum certification in Japan (just three weeks after its release). Gran Turismo followed in 1998, though it lacked an obvious hit and led to a long hiatus for the band. Finally, the Cardigans returned in 2003 with Long Gone Before Daylight, marking a clear transition with confessional material closer to the singer/songwriter tradition. Super Extra Gravity followed in 2005. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

(Live at Popstad Festival '04 / The Cardigans Nicke Borg / Bruce Springsteen cover) [Nicke] I had a job, I had a girl I had something going, mister, in this world I got laid off down at the lumber yard Our love went bad, times got hard Now I work down at the car wash Where all it ever does is rain Don't you feel like you're a rider on a downbound train? [Nina] I just said, Joe, I gotta go We had it once, we ain't got it anymore I packed my bags, left you behind I bought a ticket on the Central Line Nights as I sleep, I hear that whistle whining I feel your kiss in the misty rain And I feel like I'm a rider on a downbound train [Nicke] Last night I heard your voice You were crying, crying, you were so alone [Nina] I said my love never died And I'm waiting for you at home [Nicke] Put on my jacket, I ran through the woods I ran till I thought my chest would explode There in the clearing, beyond the highway In the moonlight, our wedding house shone [Nicke Nina] I rushed through the yard I burst through the front door, my head pounding hard Up the stairs I climbed The room was dark, our bed was empty Then I heard that long whistle whine And I dropped to my knees, hung my head and cried Now I swing a sledge hammer on a railroad gang Knocking down them cross ties, working in the rain Now, don't it feel like you're a rider on a downbound train? Now, don't it feel like you're a rider on a downbound train? Now, don't it feel (don't it feel) Like you're a rider (like you're a rider) Don't it feel like you're a rider Don't it feel like you're a rider on a downbound train?

Amazon. com These days it's getting harder to tell the real pop twerps from the hip parodists--both of whom make music sweeter and more dizzying than cherry wine. Take Sweden's Cardigans, for example. On one hand, they work the same delicious Bacharach lounge jazz and gooey '60s girl swoons as Pizzicato Five, a group whose retrokitsch is delivered with a big, fake-eyelashed wink. On the other hand, the Cardigans come from a land that gave us Abba and Ace of Base, sincere pop legends if ever there were. The Cardigans, it seems, could go either way, and their subtle blend of pop-for-pop's-sake with pop-for-joke's-sake makes their first American release, Life, all the more a modernist gem. There's no use digging below the surface of Life's amazingly catchy opening quartet of tunes. All the joy to be extracted lies right on the surface. Carnival's loopy organ and punchy beat is all cotton candy and merry-go-rounds. Daddy's Car is a fun-fun-fun ride to the up-up-and-away. Fine soars heavenward while Rise & Shine is mile-a-minute perk-me-up. From there, though, Our Space ventures deeper, into darker and moodier atmospherics and a trip-hoppy electronic shuffle. Singer Nina Persson's crystalline lullaby voice keeps it all sounding innocent as hell, but when she sinks her candy-coated teeth into a Black Sabbath cover (Sabbath Bloody Sabbath) she exposes a few sinister cavities. By the time she closes the album, exulting No one can be happier than me! the effect is eerie enough for David Lynch. With Life, the Cardigans give us pop till it hurts. --Roni Sarig Product Description Japanese only SHM-CD (Super High Material CD - playable on all CD players) pressing includes five bonus tracks over the original Swedish version, 'Sick & Tired', 'Rise & Shine', 'Celia Inside', 'After All', & 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath'. Universal. 2008.
If I could give an album more than five stars, Life would be the first candidate to receive it. This CD is just brimming with an innocent joy that is as infectious as it is melodically brilliant. Just try to resist tapping your toes to Carnival or Tomorrow, and it's hard to quell the urge to sing along with the delightful chorus of Daddy's Car. This is one of very few great pop albums. The atmosphere of the album is great, but don't take this to mean that the musicians aren't talented. one only needs to hear Sick Tired for some great guitar work. A listen to Tomorrow will garner you with some of the best drum work of a band today. And on Carnival, lead singer Nina's Persson's voice is taken to a whole new level of feeling, apart from her normal whisper. This album is sheer genius. Credit also goes to the Cardigans for Our Space a trippy, and thoughtful song that revels in Nina's minimalist voice. The kitsch of Gordon's Gardenparty is wonderfully shameless. DEFINITELY worth your time and money.

Welcome and thanks for visiting! Cardigans are a true joy and a wonderful dog to experience. I am honored that they let me sleep in the same bed as them each night and allow me to be their constant guardian and caretaker.)I can't imagine my life without them!
My name is Garrett Ramsay and I live near Perham, MN. I live onthe 320 acre farm I grew up on, and its been in my family since 1892. It is a working farm with cattle, sheep, poultry and of course the herding Cardigans! I went to college at North Dakota State University (GO BISON!) and graduated with a degree in Animal Science, option in Business Production, emphasizing in Genetics and Nutrition. I was on the NDSU Dairy Judging team and a member of their Saddle and Sirloin club.
These Cardigans crept into my heart and are here to stay. They are smart, willing, agile, humorous and full of love and devotion. If the human race could only learn from them. I have been competitive in the conformation ring as well as performance rings such as rally, obedience and agility. I have gotten the titles on the dogs mostly myself (with a little help along the way) and look forward to many years in the future with my dogs at my side, enjoying these events together.
The more and more people that are aware of getting animals from breeders who test and have health guarantees, the better off the breed is as a whole! Its worth it! Maybe the biggest band to come out of Sweden since Abba, The Cardigans' 1996 mega-hit "Lovefool" was instantly recognizable for the distinctive cotton candy vocals of Nina Persson. The band made penning melodies that were as eternally fresh and instantly consumable as Twinkies sound easy. It's not easy, of course -- at least not always. In the case of the Cardigans, there is evidence of carefully refined talent beneath the whimsy. - Chad Driscoll

Swedes through and throughThe Cardigans often find themselves outside Swedish borders. Vocalist Nina Persson —who is married to American film composer Nathan Larson — has homes in New York and Malmö. “I lead the life of a luxurious housewife in New York,” she says with a chuckle. “And work in Sweden.” She has no problems combining the two. Persson says she has probably lost some of her “Swedishness”, but not in a negative sense. Guitarist Peter Svensson agrees. “You lose things you can afford to get rid of and become open to other cultures," he says. "If you stay in one place, you're held captive by your surroundings.” The Cardigans feel most Swedish when they are abroad, and accept that their national heritage influences their music. “It’s difficult to put a finger on why, as the music scene is very diverse and we’ve always worked in English,” Svensson says. “But our mentality is resolutely Swedish.” Right song, right time
The Cardigans'made their international breakthroughwithLovefool taken from the album The First Band on the Moon. Since then they havereleasedanother three albums. The latest is Super Extra Gravity.
The Cardigans’ five band members all come from Jönköping, southern Sweden. United by a mutual love of hard rock, the then teenagers formed the group in 1992. It was not long before they packed their bags for Malmö though. “It’s impossible to create a buzz in Jönköping,” Svensson says. A couple of years later they landed a record deal and were creating a buzz in university towns and Stockholm, which can be a tough venue to play. “You want to quit the tour if you start in Stockholm,” Nina Persson says. “It’s great to play there, but people don’t let go of themselves.” By 1996, the band had a couple of albums under their belt and were making a name for themselves on the Stockholm underground. “We really didn’t have a plan,” Svensson says. That year the Cardigans released the album

Finds the Cardigans once again on the road, with a European tour kicking off on April 11 in Cologne, Germany. So what can fans expect this time? “We just had a rehearsal and it was brilliant,” Persson says. Guitarist Peter Svensson nods, but pipes in with a laugh, “Fans can expect brilliance.” Compared to its more mature predecessor,
Never stands still. Unexpected sounds abound, from circuitous guitar solos and relentless metal drumming to brutal bass lines and depraved waltzes. “One of our strengths is, and always has been, that we’re unaffected by our surroundings and exist in our own universe when making music. That’s why we’ve been able to do so many records,” Persson says. “It’s not like we’re anti-social, but when it comes to The Cardigans we’re not influenced by anything but what we want to do.”

The Cardigans are a Swedish band formed in the town of Jönköping in 1992.

Tylus Magazine's Seconds column examines those magic moments that arise when listening to a piece of music that strikes that special chord inside. That pounding drum intro. a clanging guitar built-up to an anthemic chorus. that strange glitchy noise you've never quite been able to figure out. that first kiss or heartbreak. a well-turned rhyme that reminds you of something in your own past so much, it seems like it was written for you—all of those little things that make people love music. Every music lover has a collection of these Seconds in his or her head. these are some of ours. I habitually download albums by old favorites, even when I know damn well I moved on long ago. Maybe I believe too hard in the comeback myth. maybe I just want to see what they’re up to. It’s kind of perverse to want to know how a good band sounds past their prime—kind of like showing up at your high school reunion to see who screwed up—but probably that, too. Sometimes it’s shocking who’s still making durable music. Local H is alive and well in case you were wondering! Not that the Cardigans ever really fell off. “My Favorite Game” was as great a follow-up to a supposed one-hit wonder as a non-fanatic could ask. But they are the kind of band people stopped paying attention to, justified or not. Years always begin slow for the great albums to roll in, and during one particular YSI spree at the beginning of 2005 I did a double take after hearing the Cardigans’ Super Extra Gravity and threw it on anyway. The album played as expected, above average but unmemorable pop with a few remnants of alt-aggression, but nothing brain-tattooing like “Great Divide” or “Been It” from that wonderful album you can snatch for a penny plus S&H off Amazon. I don’t remember what I was doing when the Europe-only bonus tracks began, but I definitely froze. Only a year after Franz Ferdinand’s irresistibly pushy “Jacqueline,” there were all the hallmarks again. muted, ghostly intro, followed by revved guitars, winding up and down with an urgency the “Lovefool” guys named after sweaters certainly never worked up before. It turns out Nina Persson’s angelic vocals sound excellent over faux-garage barnstorming. Twin guitars surf and simmer through the verses, occasionally braiding with a live-wire fuzz bass fill that could be a compressed sax until, aha, the Big Chorus so many try for but lack the confidence. There it is, though, exactly the heavenward trill Hot Hot Heat bought for “Let Me In,” only unforced, bracing, and superbly atypical of a band you usually can’t tell is on edge. “Give me your eyes / So I can see me straight / Give me your eyes / I can’t tell night from day” is nothing special on paper, but through Persson’s pipes, its clarion power is Pat Benatar bigness, criminally relegated to the back of the disc (and deemed unfit for whatever U. S. audience they have left) by the worst A&R person ever. Maybe that’s the point. shy bands don’t usually let go like this. The track is so joyous and releasing that it makes the rest of Super Extra Gravity (I repeat, not a bad album) sound like a 9-5 job. “Give Me Your Eyes” is like the little souvenir lovingly attached from an off-day jam just so they can remind themselves it’s not all a business. The only serious-band hidden-jam fun ratio that ranks even close is Luna’s “Bonnie & Clyde,” and that’s a cover. “Eyes” is the kind of rage expulsion you can imagine a quiet band’s guitarist fermenting for years (“Can we track it this time?”). Ironically, it’s the only hyper-commercial thing on the album. Clearly the band doesn’t know its own power, but what discerning label would balk at that massive chorus? As if the mouthful chosen single, “I Need Some Fine Wine, And You, You Need to Be Nicer” (sing along to that hook) was going to break Clear Channel. In a perfect world, “My Favorite Game” would’ve been “Lovefool” and “Give Me Your Eyes” would’ve been “My Favorite Game” at least. This is why Radiohead left the industry and fucking Springsteen whines about being played on “Radio Nowhere.” I just wanna hear some rhythm.
Ne of the most pleasing pop groups of the '90s, the Cardigans' sugary confections would grow annoying very quickly if they weren't backed by great musicianship and clever arrangements. The band's 1995 breakout album Life reflected the Cardigans at their most saccharine the sunny disposition of vocalist Nina Persson being the major argument in favor and critics inserted the group into the space age pop revivalist camp. The Cardigans later proved that they were more difficult to pigeonhole, however. Even the band's origins show that their later appearance was quite misleading. two heavy metal fanatics formed the group in October 1992 in Jonkoping, Sweden. Guitarist Peter Svensson met bassist Magnus Sveningsson in a hardcore group, though he had previously trained in music theory and jazz arranging. The two later grew tired of metal and decided to form a pop band with Nina Persson an art-school friend who had never sung professionally plus keyboard player Lars-Olof Johansson and drummer Bengt Lagerberg. All five Cardigans moved into a small apartment in 1993 and began recording a demo tape, which entered the possession of producer Tore Johansson later that year. He liked what he heard and invited the group to record at his Malmö studio. Signed to the dance-oriented Stockholm label, the Cardigans released Emmerdale in May 1994. The single Rise Shine became a hit on Swedish radio soon after the release of the LP, and a readers poll in Sweden's Slitz magazine voted Emmerdale the best album of 1994.
He Cardigans spent the last half of 1994 touring Europe and recording their second album. A satirical response to their moody debut, Life showed the band at their most upbeat, including an angelic picture of Persson in an ice-skating outfit for the cover. Released in March 1995 with several re-recordings of songs from Emmerdale the album eventually sold one and a half million copies worldwide and became especially popular in Japan, where it achieved platinum status. Nevertheless, the infectious single Lovefool became a radio hit by early 1997, and First Band on the Moon eventually reached gold status in America, as well as platinum certification in Japan (just three weeks after its release). Gran Turismo followed in 1998, though it lacked an obvious hit and led to a long hiatus for the band. Finally, the Cardigans returned in 2003 with Long Gone Before Daylight, marking a clear transition with confessional material closer to the singer/songwriter tradition.

OK, were is My Favorite Game? One of the best songs by The Cardigan's! and Been It? Explode? maybe I just have not heard them yet!
That's the genius of The Cardigans. The music sounds light as air, but the lyrics are often viciously cynical. Definitely not bubble-gum fare. c.
That's the point - the lyrics are supposed to be subversive (like much of the Cardigan's library). If you just hear the song and don't listen to the lyrics it sounds kind of happy-go-lucky. The song is about a nation falling to war and supporting death and destruction just so that it's not staying still.
Overplayed at RP. And having no history with the Cardigans, this really just sounds like Kelly Clarkson to me.
I think a station that plays The Cardigans, Nickel Creek, Nina Simone, Johnny Cash, Beck, and the Foo Fighters in the span of a few hours qualifies as eclectic!
Swedish band The Cardigans, revealed thanks to the hit "Lovefool" in 1996, will release a Best Of including all their hits & a second disc with unreleased & demos. 16 years ago, the band The Cardigans.

Amazon. co. uk Review Long Gone Before Daylight marks a shift in theme for the Cardigans. Their last album, 1998's Gran Turismo, was a masterpiece. With Peter Svensson's quirky, driving, ultra-modern pop backing Nina Persson's icy dissections of doomed relationships, it was a Love Album informed more by Bret Easton Ellis than any high romance. So catchy, so cool and so incredibly bleak--exceptional, intelligent pop in the tradition of Soft Cell and ABC. Long Gone Before Daylight, then, comes as something of a shock when the opening "Communication" and "You're the Storm"--both lush and beautiful pop--find Persson struggling for love then, come the Doors-like "And Then You Kissed Me", actually finding it. Real love, too--not the fascinatingly twisted variety of before. It's a terrible shame, for love reduces the Cardigans to the level of other musicians. But then, unpredictable devils, they hit you with "Couldn't Care Less", as Persson loses it all again, in the following "Please Sisters" begging for advice, succour, anything. And now you realise. it's a pop-rock opera, the tale of one heart's tortuous and tortured journey through the mill. And it's superb. Persson, the finest pop lyricist working today, is on peak form while the band's back-to-roots grand piano and grander acoustic guitars provide an appropriately magnificent backing. --Dominic Wills CD Description 'Long Gone Before Daylight' is The Cardigans first studio album since their fourth LP 'Grand Tourismo' was released in 1998. Consisting of thirteen tracks of catchy, simple, Scandinavian pop, recorded in a more back-to-basics style. Features guest appearances from The Hives Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, Ebbot Lundberg from the The Soundtrack Of Our Lives and NickRoyale from Hellacopters.
I don't think I'm going to add anything new to what other people have written here - I'm merely expressing another vote of FIVE stars for this astonishing, polished work. I'm glad the people of Amazon have mostly favoured this album. It surely deserves the praise. Nina's new love of the country style which she displayed very well without the other Cardigans on her A Camp album shows very much here. To the rest of the Cardigans' credit however, they add something very perfect and very natural to this album which was lacking on her 'solo' venture. This sound suits her voice so well. I was a fan of Gran Turismo, but it's this dusky setting, sat at home on your own with only a bottle of wine for company, where this album excels. The slow and the not so slow tracks here are balanced nicely. Not too maudlin, and not too up tempo, but it's the slower tracks which work best for me. The incredibly debilitating "Couldn't Care Less" is one of finest songs I've ever ever heard, and on every listen stops me in my tracks. Musically and lyrically, this is wonderful stuff, and the polished production never goes over the top. The finest instrument is of course the singer, but this truly is a band effort - every note played, every instrument chosen all adds to this great great album. There are a few lyric cliches here and there, but I'm sure many bands whose native language is English will kick themselves that a Swede has a better command of expression and poetry than they do.There are loads of highlights on this album - "Communication", "And Then You Kissed Me", "Lead Me Into The Night", "Feathers and Down" and "03.35 No Sleep" are particularly exceptional for me. Enjoy (bottle of wine optional).
I thought, shockingly enough, I might be the first person to provide a glowing review of this CD but someone else (apparently) bought the CD too & beat me to it! This, in my humble estimation, is The Cardigans at their best - the tormented, twisted, tenebrous undercurrents still bubbling up under what are superlatively crafted jaunty ("pop") songs with some very clever, brutally honest lyrics. Perhaps a tad more upbeat & accoustic-based than Gran Turismo but hey, bands have to move on. The played-incessantly highlights for me are. Communication - beautifully sweeping with orchestral backdrop & such aching vulnerability from Nina Persson's vocal you (may) want to cry. And Then You Kissed Me - Nina on top form relating the darker side of love and making no apologies for it! You're The Storm - this is exactly what I mean by "jaunty" (singalong), but with such shimmering songwriting brilliance (the lyric especially). These guys are just too clever for their own good. On a parting note, does anyone else think Nina sounds a little disconcertingly like Sheryl Crow on A Good Horse? Or is it just my ears?!
Who would have thought that someone driving into your car would be a blessing in disguise? If wasn't for a hire car and Wimbledon swamping Radio Five, I would never have turned to Radio Two to offer me some relief from motorway miles - and not have heard "You're the Storm". My life would have been so much less rich for this. If someone had told me I would fall in love with a Cardigan's album I'd not have believed them. This album is worth losing a no claims bonus for. If there was a magic formula for albums, this would have used it. Some albums excite and fade away quickly, some albums never offer a spark, some albums offer just enough to make you come back and get stronger listen after listen. This fits in to the latter catagory. How to describe the album? Cast your minds back to the late eighties and early nineties. Albums were made that were layered, sounded sonically superb and that had energy. This was how many great albums were recorded before sqaushed flat sounds ruled the roost. Forget all that, because this takes the best aspects of bygone, classic production and adds a modern touch. Three things stand out. beautiful acoustic guitar sounds (sympathetically played), a gorgeous, sexy (let's not ignore this fact) voice that makes you lose the moment and most importantly superb songs. The first two songs, on second listen, send shivers down your spine. They are jaw droppingly good. Twenty or so listens later other songs then start to have the same effect. This is what music was invented for. This is guitar pop at its very best. This is how modern music should be recorded, but even if it was, very few would come close to producing classy songs like this, that stick in your head without being annoying. Perhaps the most impressive things is that a Swedish band can write lyrics that (while on the odd occasion are clunky) are sometimes excellent and thought provoking, sometimes sexy (yes, again sexy) and often memorable. The image of Nina having a four letter word stuck in her head, the dirtiest word that she's ever said - and the fact that she's singing (with what sounds like a big grin on her face) that she's going to keep someone up all night enjoying carnal pleasures is fine, if blunt, imagery. And - did I mention this? - it's sexy. For what it's worth, I love this album. And what is worse, I really do.
What It's Worth The Cardigans are normally associated with upbeat, bouncy music such as 'Lovefool' and 'Rise & Shine'.
Welsh Corgi Cardigans are low set and long with heavy bones. They have large erect ears and fox-like tails. Welsh Corgi Cardigans are sturdy and powerful.
Welsh Corgi Cardigans come in red, sable and brindle black tan and blue merle (black and gray. marbled).
Welsh Corgi Cardigans are serious and even tempered. They are suspicious of strangers. Cardigans make excellent companions for the elderly and the disabled. This breed enjoys the company of children.
Active indoors this breed will do well living in an apartment. Welsh Corgi Cardigans are very active and must be exercised regularly.
Old for us. But looking around and seeing girls looking so cozy, cute and effortlessly casual in their chunky cardigans, has made me think that maybe with the right combination, its not so bad after all! So here are some of my inspirations on how to wear a cardigan in a more fashionable and young way.
Be called a cardigan. Like this one from Free People, with the random patch work, short length and floral trimming. Definitely not something you'd see grandma wearing. I also love how they matched it with a bright colorful but plain spaghetti strap here.
Taking this the other way around, you can match a plain chunky cardigan, like this one from Top Shop. . .
Same idea here with this short sleeved cardigan over a printed long sleeved tee from Urban Outfitters by Lux. The layering of a chunky cardigan over a thin tee is just right and not too messy. Although I must say, I'm
But my favourite cardigan look is this one from Free People. Actually I'm not even sure if it can be termed as a cardigan, but it IS chunky, cute and cozy right? I just LOVE how they matched this outfit. I saw a designer do it this summer at work, and I thought, "wow, who would've thought a dress shirt and a cardigan would go so well?"
Then there are the more conventional long cardigans, like this one from Anthropoligie. Worn simply like this in a contrast with the simple tee inside, it just soo effortlessly casual. But again, maybe not red and green unless its xmas. Black and magenta? Dark purple and forrest green?
So go out and have fun with cardigans! Fall is the perfect weather to wear it, don't wait until its too cold!
Ok, just to correct my terms, I've been informed that these are actually sweaters, and should be termed as Chunky Sweaters instead of Chunky Cardigans. Just to clarify. A shame about my triple alliteration. .
The most comprehensive collection of pictures of The Cardigans, A Camp, and Nina Persson every assembled.
First a disclaimer - live bootlegs should never be substituted for buying the official album from an artist. If you love the Cardigans, go buy the album! That being said, Yann has posted some Cardigans bootlegs for download on his blog. A Camp Cologne 2001 Roskilde 2003 (which I attended) and many others. Go check it out!
The London newspaper The Independent did an interview with Nina Persson recently. Interesting tidbit. I have to feel 100 per cent conviction about doing another Cardigans record, she says, and right now I dont. I feel terribly guilty, yes, as I know they are waiting Its not my fault Im irreplaceable, is it?

Cardigans never go out of style. Yes, the lengths, the fabrics, the colors and the details change from season to season, but ultimately, a cardigan pulls together any look. For the office, try a long cardigan in a smart shade like navy or plum to give a pencil skirt and blouse a new twist. Pair that same cardigan with a lightweight long sleeved tee, slim jeans, flats and a statement bag for a day at the market, and take the same one to dinner with trousers and a shot of metallic. Three quick looks brought to you by one must-have piece this fall and winter.
The Cardigans were formed by two Swedes Peter Svensson and Magnus Sveningsson, both ex-members of heavy metal bands. In 1992 they decided to unite their efforts and play a different genre to attract bigger audience. To complete the band, the musicians recruited Bengt Lagerburg, Lars-Olof Johansson and Nina Persson. The debut album by The Cardigans, Emmerdale, saw light in 1994. It met critical acclaim and had sales good enough for a first effort. The subsequent CD, Life (1995), appeared a much loved record in the USA, the UK and Japan as it had a good charts run in these countries. The band made an unexpected move delivering each song from this long player as a separate single. All of them entered Top 40 of the UK. To promote the record, The Cardigans went on a tour along with Blur. As a result, Life was distributed to the amount of one and half a million copies worldwide. The lyrics for the first two albums were written by Magnus. Since 1996, Magnus has shared this duty with Nina. The Cardigans released their third album, First Band On the Moon, in September 1996. It featured a hit single called Lovefool, heavily played by the worlds leading stations. The song did much to make the whole album platinum in the US and Japan. This release was followed by a long streak of concerts held by the band in Scandinavia, Europe and Japan. The Japanese turned out to be the biggest fans of The Cardigans as they bought three hundred thousand copies of the new album in a week after its release. Considering the special relations with the local audience, The Cardigans tried to visit this country as much as possible and even issue an exclusive CD for Japan, The Other Side Of the Moon (1997 featuring B-sides and one new song Its War. The 1998 release of the fourth album, Gran Turismo was preceded by the single My Favorite Game. The original version of the video for this song was prohibited from MTV broadcasting. It featured Nina driving the car carelessly and eventually crashing dead. In the end the viewer was presented an image of her separated head. The band was forced to quickly remove the video from their site and shoot another one. Reaching the peak of world fame and getting ready for the global tour, The Cardigans suddenly came to the brink of collapse. The disputes between the musicians led to Magnus and Nina leaving the band to take up their own solo careers. 2001 was the year of silence and searching for the new way to develop. However, by the end of 2002, all the conflicts were settled and the band resumed the activity in the original lineup. The new album called Long Gone Before Daylight recorded by The Cardigans in cooperation with Soundtrack Of Our Lives, The Hives, and The Hellacopters. The record hit the stores in May 2004. The critics noticed the shift to a more melancholic atmosphere compared to the previous works. Nina called it a night album. The changes in music and mood were well welcomed by the press and the public. Some of the songs featured Ninas voice with the masculine vocals of the invited singers. In the early 2005 The Cardigans locked up in their Malmo studio to work on the next long player. Super Extra Gravity (2005) signified an even more decisive step away from pop music sound. The Cardigans recorded a material aimed at an audience different from those who liked their first works. Since then The Cardigans have slowed down their studio and concert activity. It took them three more years to deliver a new album. However, it was a collection of their best songs instead of new material.

NEITHER THEIR NEWFOUND compulsion to make guitars sound like harpsichords nor their implementation of simulated drum programming should convince you that the Cardigans have "gone electronic." As arty pop dilettantes, they're simply acknowledging electro-texture's ascendance over frilly orchestration as the accepted decor of boutique pop in the late '90s. And those crawling tempos don't mean that Nina Persson takes her fascination with the masochistic clichs of girlie pop seriously. She's playing at doom-ridden romanticism the way she played at unflappable airheadedness back when she was frequenting garden parties and cooing, "Life is very fine." But pop doesn't need any more whelp-divas or sluggish BPMs. bleak wasteland that it is, commercial radio remains open to settlement by any pioneers brave enough to place hooks before principles. In other words, there are the makings of a second New Wave here, if anyone wants it. "My Favorite Game" capitalizes grandly on that chance. Peter Svensson's guitar echoes "White Wedding," above classically hokey, tasty Police atmospherics and polyrhythms, while Persson trades on pseudo-profundities worthy of the band's beloved Black Sabbath ("You rip me up and spread me all around/In the dust of the deed of time"). But that single is also a commercial obligation from a band so obviously terrified that "Lovefool" has typecast them as The Disco Diva + Her Four Merry Gents that they prefer intricate doodles to the broader canvas of pop. So having once hummed a trivial tune with an undertow of doom, now they lace a doomy tune with an undertow of triviality. Forget reclaiming the effervescent delights of received kitsch. they've got their own kitsch to craft. And admittedly, flattening your Sabbath-inspired guitar metal until it's thin enough to plate your wispy melodies can be intriguing. Same with the coy way Persson winks at you while pretending she's got something in her eye. But when they claim songwriting credit for hackneyed questions like "Do you really think/That love is gonna save the world?/Well, I don't think so," it's tough to take their decadence as lightly as you'd have to in order to take their music seriously. I never thought I'd say this about any band, but I really do miss the flutes.

One item that seems to never go out of fashion is the cardigan. Simple, practical and sophisticated, cardigans always look great whether paired with jeans and a T-shirt or something a little fancier. Either way, it always adds a touch of class, and the best part is guys and gals alike can sport this look. Communications sophomore Samantha Beuther agrees saying they are versatile. “It’s always nice to have one — you can dress it up or dress it down,” Beuther says. Although cardigans can be pretty basic, there are plenty of ways to mix it up. The cardigan looks great in most fits. Try it over-sized, fitted or cropped, and wear it buttoned up or open. Solid colored cardigans were popular this past fall, but for spring try it with embellishments or fun prints like polka dots. For the more demure, there are floral prints, or for something a little more exotic, try leopard print. Also, shed the dark fall colors, and go for something with a little more pop this spring with brighter colors. “[Cardigans] are definitely good to have. I feel like everyone should have at least one,” Beuther says. Reach the reporter at nicole. ethier@asu. edu.
